This is NOT a YA book. This is a very GRAPHIC romance novel! I know I usually review YA, so I just wanted to make that clear. It is also the second book in the New World series, so I will try to write a non-spoiler review. So, please forgive if things are a bit vague!
I loved the contrast of the hard-ass edge of Charlotte to the innocence of Bridgette. Even though they are sisters they are complete opposites. It's amazing to me that Bridgette was able to stay under cover for so long playing Weapon X. Especially with Roman around, seeing as how they are so magnetized to each other! Roman was an interesting character, full of mystery. I would have like to have known more, but the character development tended to focus more on relationships than individual characters.
Masked left me with an inner battle about how to write this review. I understand that this is not a Young Adult novel and there are different expectations from the audience. The plot was solid but got lost a lot with the other aspects of the novel being more prevalent. In my opinion, when it is a life or death situation and all a character talks about is how they want to lick beads of sweat off another one, it gets a bit unbelievable. The sexual content in this book was not needed because the story was strong enough without it.
Overall, Masked was a great read. Just outside of my comfort zone.

Janelle Stalder was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario. At an early age she developed a love for literature. Her debut novel, Eden, was the first book in a series of four, released in September of 2011. The second book, Eden-West, was released in July of 2012, and the third book, Eden-South was released in March of 2013. The fourth book of the Eden Series, Eden-East, will be release at the end of 2013. She is a strong supporter of other independent authors, and loves to interact with her readers. When she's not writing, Janelle is at home with her husband, two children, Aiden and Elora, and her two furry children, Alice and Lily. She now resides in the small town in Ontario in her old, possibly haunted, century home.
