Review: "Pure" by Julianna Baggott

“Pure” was a twisted, disturbing, incredibly brilliant story. The characters were superbly written. I engaged with Pressia instantly. This young woman who has lost so much already yet she doesn’t give up. She continues fighting for her life. And even when she thinks she is abandoned, she never gives up hope. Partridge is a unique character himself. At first, I didn’t know what to think of either him or Bradwell. But when the characters progressed through the unfolding of the story, it was seamless.

There is a deliberate darkness to this story telling and I love it. Julianne Baggott captured the landscape of a land we fear most. Charred & tortured, worthless.  This book was so different from the other books I have been reading, that it knocked me off-kilter. I absolutely loved it for that. “Pure” reminded me how much fun it is to grab a cool looking new book from the library and have it turn out to be a fantastic adventure!
